Cure for regressive autism?

Hello everyone I found a very interesting video on youtube about the (possible) causes and cures for regressive autism - unfortunately it`s only available in German (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NCGBA9V_VE) or French (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=va7gebZlp7c), but the interviewees (if there is such a word) all speak English, so you might give it a try. The video basically proposes the theory that regressive autism is caused by a a faulty microbial community in the intestines (dominated by clostridiae), which produce proprionic acid that causes autism-like symptoms. Hence, regressive autism might either be cured by removing the "faulty" microbial community in the guts (which is to date a bit difficult) or autism-like symptoms reduced by either changing the diet (no casein, no gluten) or by adding probiot substances to the diet to allow the "healthy" gut ecosystem to dominate over the "bad" claustridiae community. Hence, regressive autism is (or could be - further research required) a disease that might be cured (one day), whereas "normal" autism is a developmental condition (without a cure - which is a bit depressing). Nevertheless, I found this video very interesting, as it might explain (1) why some children improve with a change of diet and others don`t and (2) why regressive autism seems to be on the rise. I have "normal" autism (Asperger`s), but I nevertheless give the probiotic additives a try - who knows, it might help me, too! Hope this post is helpful for you! All the best and a Happy New Year! aspinaut
